We recognize that for a disturbingly large amount of the world’s female population, a few days a month of the menses are ‘a time of shame’.

Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Day was created by the Germany based organization NGO WASH United as recently as 2014. The day was created to normalize the action of menstruation, the importance of access to hygiene during this time, with the support of over 270 global partners.

Menstrual Hygiene Day 2022

Interestingly, the reason that May 28th was chosen is that May is the 5th month of the year- most women average to having their period for 5 days, and their cycle tends to be at 28 days. So, in a way, 28th May is especially symbolic!

As part of the global efforts to mark the Menstrual hygiene Day 2022, #WeAreCommitted to enlighten about 300 students in your school on essential topics menstrual hygiene and how to use sanitary products.

Some of the activities include;

  • A 1-day workshop with the girls on the related topics (girls’ sexuality, health, hygiene and well-being)
  • Group exercises
  • One on one counselling
  • Distribution of sanitary kits
