At the GCAF Centre, we firmly believe that providing youth with high-quality supplies, materials, equipment, and skilled facilitators can transform their lives. We recognize that when young individuals are nurtured in such an environment, they have the potential to blossom into extraordinary individuals themselves.

GCAF Studio programs have gained national and international recognition as an after-school arts education and apprenticeship program, providing an incredible opportunity for girls and young women. The best part is that participation is entirely free.

At the GCAF centre, learning through the arts becomes a bridge that connects young women and girls to a vast world of ideas, aspirations, and opportunities in life, higher education, and careers. We achieve this through engaging activities such as exhibitions, workshops, artist talks, advocacy initiatives, and courses. These carefully curated experiences aim to unlock the creative potential of our participants while instilling our core philosophical values in a safe and nurturing environment.

The Studio Programs at GCAF encompass various courses in different studios, including Painting, Textile and Print, Fashion Design, Ceramics, Performing Arts, Digital Arts, and Photography. These courses provide comprehensive artistic education to participants.

Besides our after-school programming, the GCAF studio extends its educational offerings to youth during school and holidays, ensuring continuous engagement in creative pursuits. Our Art Harbour, Mental Fitness program also offers art activities tailored for adults. The distinctive programming offered at the GCAF Centre is a strong entry point to re-engaging young women and girls, leading to improved academic outcomes, guidance in career objectives, reduced dropout rates, and enhanced cultural development.

If you are interested in learning more about this adult program, please get in touch with us via email at info@girlchildart.org.

GCAF does not require students to have any prior art-making experience to participate in the courses.

Art can transcend boundaries and empower individuals to express themselves freely. It is crucial to create a secure and inclusive environment where everyone, regardless of their background or identity, can unleash their creativity and share their unique perspectives through art.

COMMUNITY SPACE GUIDE

At the GCAF Centre, we prioritize creating a secure and inclusive environment where individuals can freely express themselves. Each person is provided with the necessary conditions to feel safe and valued. While our rules may vary from session to session based on the participants present, we uphold four non-negotiable standards that remain consistent across all our programs.

RESPECT EACH OTHER

Ask and respect people’s opinions, dressing, looks, and views.

Ask consent before touching or commenting on one another’s creations, materials, bodies or identities.

Be mindful of other’s sensory needs when in the space. If you’re unsure, ask for clarification!

RESPECT STUDIO PROPERTY

As members of our team, we must uphold the highest ethical standards and treat each other with respect and integrity. Taking someone else’s belongings without permission seriously violates trust and goes against the values we strive to uphold.

Please refrain from theft involving office supplies, personal items, or any other belongings within our workplace. Let us foster an environment of trust, honesty, and collaboration by respecting one another’s property.

HAVE FUN

This is your chance to explore a variety of creative outlets, and figure out which you like the best – while also understanding yourself and those around you. So have fun in the process!
