Behind our smiles are our stories, our needs, our dreams, and experiences, good or bad. As we celebrate this year’s International Day of the Girl around the world. Let us tell a story through our voices expressing our thoughts on a better future for the girl child. We will love you to share your story and dreams for a better world for girls by painting a mask. You can raise your voice through your expressions in colour through your art.

Tell us what equality means to you in the colours on your mask.

Paint a mask (Not Covid-19 mask) expressing the various colours, shapes, and lines of your thought.

Take a very high-quality clear picture or scan of very high quality.

Theme: Behind the Mask – My Voice, Our Equal Future

Eligibility: Girls aged 8-18yrs

Do not send pictures from WhatsApp.

– Picture size must be between 1 MB to 5 MB in size.

– Trim all pictures to the exact image of the artwork.

– Do not add external backgrounds to your artwork picture.

Instructions for the Artist

1. Theme

“BEHIND THE MASK: My Voice, Our Equal Future”.

Seize the opportunity to reimagine a better world inspired by adolescent girls.

Girls want a better world that is safe, where they will be recognized, counted, and invested in equally.

2. Create

Create your own work of art that interprets this theme. Make sure it falls within the categories of painting, digital painting, or mixed media (such as collage).

Please note that 3- dimensional, photography, and video works cannot be accepted. Plagiarizing is also not allowed, so we can’t accept any tracing or direct copy from another work.

3. Reflect

The reflection is a short piece of writing that describes anything you care to mention about the artwork, like what inspired your colours and lines. It should be 50-150 words long.

4. Send

Please ask for an adult’s assistance to create a clear digital copy of your artwork, then fill in the application form here https://bit.ly/3kOoqdx.

Submission Instructions for Parents, Teachers or Program Managers

Terms and Conditions

Please assist your child/student to create a clear digital copy of their original artwork. You can either scan a copy of the artwork or take a good quality photograph.

Please fill in the application form in the link above. If a teacher or program manager is registering the child, then it will be assumed that they have received necessary parental consent for the entry.

Only one individual work can be submitted for each girl, but the same child can submit work as part of a group work entry.

Deadline for submission: 8th of October 2020. Entries received after that date will not be accepted.

Entry Guidelines Summary

The competition will be open to all girl children aged 8-18 years.

Artworks should depict a self-interpretation of an African mask.

Individual artworks should be between 1mb of 5mb in size.

A parent or teacher or child must take a good quality photograph of the artwork and submit the photo by email with the girl child’s explanation of the artwork.
